Lire cet article en français: [[Transfert Numérique de Film et Audio]] ## MJL Video / Media Memory We used to transfer a wide range of analogue film formats, duplicate media, extract digital media from SD cards or even very old formats like floppy disk and Iomega disk. ![[media-memory-logo.jpg]] ![[mjlvideologo2.jpg]] *Photo of all our audio and video transfer hardware* ![[mjl-video-hardware.png]] Old hardware is increasingly difficult to find in good condition. We transferred souvenir cassettes to digital format for families to share with loved ones and with future generations. ![[mjl-video-office-2.png]] We transferred all video cassette formats including DV, HDV, VHS, VHS-C, S-VHD, Hi-8, both to DVD and digital video files. ![[mjlvideo-flyer-2014.png]] ## Super 8 and Single 8 transfer We digitised 8mm reels using one of our two telecinemas, removing the joins between film reels in post-editing. This was not always necessary, but some films deserved in-depth colour correction. Super 8 films age differently over time and can lose their original look, sometimes turning purple monochrome. We corrected this by adding a black and white filter and adjusting the contrast. *Elmo telecinema:* ![[mjl-elmo-sony-telecinema.png]] *TCS Simple 8 and Super 8 Telecinema* ![[mjl-tcs-super8-simple8-telecinema.png]] *Sample output of Super 8 transfer*  We applied the most suitable correction using video filters for contrast, brightness, colour depth if the colours were bland. ## Post Transfer Editing Generally we just cleaned up the recorded video before supplying to the customer. Scanning slides allowed customers to rediscover and share past events, photos taken in the 80s or 90s before digital devices were widely available. *Plustek 7200:* ![[plustek-7200-slide-scanner.jpg|400]] We used a Powerslide 5000 volume scanner which could take 100 slides in a carousel, enabling us to scan at high resolution. We cleaned, loaded, and unloaded the slides, making sure images were straight, and corrected the output images. ![[powerslide-5000-slide-scanner.jpg]] ## Colour correction ![[colour-correction.webp]] Colour correction of images depends on the level of quality sought. Very good results are possible frame by frame or per batch. However, in batch processing, the best case is to have batches of a similar in colour profile. Digital scanning allowed people to relive past events and share them with friends and family. ![[digitizing-negatives.jpg]] ## Scanning Glass Plates We rephotographed glass plates and corrected contrast and exposure before delivery to customers. ![[glass-plate.webp]] ## Scanning paper photos and documents We scanned paper photos digitally. Once scanned, photos can be adjusted to improve or restore their colour before including in family photo libraries. You can also create a printed album or animated slideshow of photos set to music. Digital photos can be mixed with scanned photos, glass plates images, slides, negatives. ![[scanning.jpeg]] We scanned documents to store in a cloud service such as Evernote or simply as a backup, for safety reasons, or ease of consultation. ## DVD Duplication We duplicated DVDs for schools, theatre companies, that had filmed events to distribute to the public. We duplicated DVDs for public bodies that needed to distribute documents. This included dust jacket, case or printed booklet. ![[systor-dvd-7-draw-duplicator.jpg]] ## Photo Reconstruction It is possible to reconstruct a severely damaged photo. The example below seems to have received ink splashes in several places. We managed to remove these defects, making the photo black and white and by rebuilding pixels outright, especially for the face of the man. ![[image-correction.png]] We are not graphic designers or artists, but we know how to use the relevant tools. For any advanced artistic work, it is always advisable to employ a specialist. ## Printed Photo Albums Some customers converted their photos into printed photo albums. What better way to relive your photos than to offer them as a birthday or Christmas present?  We scanned at resolutions which allowed customers to print scanned images up to an A3 poster. ## Digital Media Conversion We offered digital media file conversion of digital audio and video sources into other file formats. We uploaded video to YouTube for some customers. ## Data Recovery We recovered corrupted hard disks and optical disks using the required connectors, the software to recover damaged hard drives, and hardware to resurface optical disks. ![[data-services.png]] Some projects aimed to arrange a very mixed set of videos chronologically. Digital video services can be developed into other activities such as digital streaming or even other media/multimedia activities. ![[digital-video-data.jpg]] - Export videos to You Tube - Iomega Disk Transfer - Ripping MP3 and SD cards to CD - Download video from the Internet - Putting video on electronic frames ## Data Management Services Data is, of course, inherent to any computer system, whether it's managing installation files and disks, drivers, backing up databases, converting archives across generations of software, or managing a data warehouse. We recovered deleted files and other data, backups, duplicated hard drives or backed up data to disk or cloud systems. ![[duplication-and-conversion.png]]
